Ghalib and Mango Story
This product is inspired from Ahmad’s Mango Squash advertisement, printed sometime between the 1950s and 1960s. It places Mirza Ghalib, Urdu’s most beloved poet, at the heart of its message. By invoking “Ghalib ke aamon se”, the ad ties the product to Ghalib’s famous affection for mangoes, a motif that recurs throughout his letters with warmth, humor, and intimacy. His love for mangoes was not casual and this ad cleverly channels that sentiment.
Rich in text and visual detail, the design reflects a time when advertisements sought not just to inform but to persuade through language and association. Ghalib, a figure of timeless wit and taste, became a recurring presence in 20th century advertising in Pakistan to infuse everyday objects with the weight of adab.
